Crime Prevention

Since the early 1970’s, Sun Youth’s Crime Prevention Department has established a privileged working relationship with the MUC Police and its management. This close working tie has resulted in the pioneering of prevention concepts, many of which were unique to not only this city, but to this country. As with most prevention programs, our goal is primarily education as well as establishing a better cooperation among citizens residing in targeted areas.

Highlights of the program include:

  • A special education project for grade five & six students about drug abuse.
  • Teaching children the do’s and don’ts of strangers.
  • Lecture and provide literature on crime prevention.
  • Encourage Neighbourhood Watch programs.
  • Implement an anti-grafliti programme.
  • Student summer security bike patrols.
  • Restitution programs for non dangerous offenders.

PACTE Program

The PACTE (Partenaire Avec les Commencants par la Telecommunication Electromque) program was implemented as a result of diminishing cuts in police patrols and the growing safety concerns of local merchants. The program is essentially an exchange of information through telephone and electronic means between local merchants, Sun Youth and the Police. Merchants are provided information about pertinent crimes in their area and are afforded the opportunity to exchange information about suspicious activities and crime with their local police. In essence, the program helps bridge the gap between the police and local merchants through this organization’s auspices.

Fire Prevention

Sun Youth in conjunction with the local fire station occasionally lecture interested persons on this subject. Lectures encompass information about fire safety and fire prevention for people of all ages. Our team of trained personnel, has even visited schools to educate school children about the dangers of fire, matches, hazardous materials and coping with a fire.
