Sun Youth joins Éconologis

In an effort to make people’s homes more comfortable and less expensive to live in.

As in the previous years, Hydro-Québec Service interruptions will begin as of April 1st. Additionally, through its partnership with l’Association Québécoise des Indépendants du Pétrole (AQUIP), Sun Youth is able to assist families residing in the Greater Montreal area who use heating oil. Over the past 22 years, more than 300,000 litres of heating oil were distributed free of charge to families referred by Sun Youth to heating oil companies which are part of the program (Joseph Élie, CST Canada Co. and Sonic La Coop Fédérée). In an effort to make people’s homes more comfortable and less expensive to live in, Sun Youth has developed a new partnership. Throughout January and February, Éconologis had a booth at Sun Youth informing visitors of their services. Éconologis’ goal through this initiative was to improve energy efficiency and level of comfort in lower income households. To improve efficiency, Éconologis agents offer advice on fine tuning usage of lighting, heating, hot water and household appliances. They can also visit people’s homes (following their landlords’ authorization) and install new electronic thermostats which will improve energy efficiency. Finally, the agents verify the level of humidity in the apartment to increase the indoor air quality. To be eligible to this program, one must receive a Hydro-Québec bill in one’s name and household revenue must be under the minimum income threshold. The phone number to find out if you are eligible to this program is 1-844-303-7333.AnikL.jpg

For the last 2 months, Éconologis’ representatives have met hundreds of people at Sun Youth’s headquarters and over 250 of them showed interest in the program. Sun Youth was happy to host Éconologis since both organizations share the same goal of helping people better their own situation.

For the past 22 years, Sun Youth’s Heating Assistance Program has provided support and financial help to low-income families and individuals having difficulty paying their utility bills (electricity and heat). By helping people in their negotiations with Hydro-Québec’s collection department, unfortunate service interruptions and expensive fees that come along can be avoided.
