Sun Youth and the Spirit of Giving in Difficult Times

The COVID-19 crisis has caused illness, job loss and financial difficulties for thousands of families and individuals. But it has also bolstered the feeling of solidarity in the general population. Since the beginning of the pandemic, over 10,000 people have received food assistance from Sun Youth. This accomplishment would not have been possible without the help of our dedicated employees and volunteers. They continue to keep our emergency services going day in day out, working long hours to make sure people get supplies delivered to them. It also would not be possible without the remarkable generosity of our donors, who ensure that Montrealers in need will not be left behind.

Recently, the former Habs star P.K. Subban and his fiancée, Olympic gold medalist Lyndsey Vonn, who partnered with Beyond Meat and Subway Canada, to donate hundreds of subs to Sun Youth. Thanks to the generosity of the P.K. Subban Foundation, the delicious sandwiches were picked up by our team and, along with the organization’s regular daily deliveries of groceries and fresh produce, brought to families in need throughout the Island of Montreal. P.K. and Lindsey also sent a personal message on their social media platforms to Sun Youth’s staff and volunteers, adding their rallying support for all front-line workers during this difficult time. Such help is always very much appreciated by the organization.

In these challenging times, possibly now more than ever, Sun Youth needs continuous support to pursue its activities. The organization invites the population to make online donations by visiting sunyouth.org. The money from our donors will be used to purchase food for families and individuals, as well as certain necessities for babies and toddlers. It will also go towards supporting a sizeable senior community with essentials like food, personal products and non-contact communication. They will keep people safe, fed and as healthy as possible for the difficult months ahead. For donations of food, hygienic products, baby products and other essentials, please call 514 842-6822; we will guide you from there.

When donating at sunyouth.org, you might notice that the Sun Youth site has undergone a makeover. “The new site is steeped in the colours of the coming summer. These colours warm our hearts in these dark times. They speak of a better future with our friends and family, a tomorrow where we can once again be together. The simple and straightforward drawings by children illustrate the potential of creativity and imagination in each of us, which is essential to find new solutions in a world that has become complex. The chain of individuals, which represents us all, our family, our friends, symbolically reminds us of the importance of union in accomplishing great things. The sun, symbol of our organization, brings warmth and light to those who need a boost of hope in these trying times. This new campaign is one of hope in the form of a smile,” says Ann St Arnaud, Director of the Communications and Emergency Services Department.

When making your donation, you will also be given the option of writing a message for our Wall of Hope. We invite everyone to read the messages from our donors.

Sun Youth Organization continues to offer its emergency services throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. The organization’s Food Bank, Medication Program, Fire Program and other Emergency Services will continue to help disadvantaged Montrealers. Special measures and protocols have been put in place to avoid propagation of the virus throughout this operation. Due to the high number of calls, Sun Youth encourages you to write to services@jeunesseausoleil.com to book an appointment with their Emergency Services. If you do not have an email, you can always call 514-842-1214.

We want to shoutout the fantastic people from Foresters Financial and Georgia Jerkovic, who made an incredible donation of fresh food to our organization. Thank you for supporting families in need during these turbulent times. You guys rock!
