Access to Medication

Established in 1997, following the reform of Quebec’s Public Prescription Drug Insurance Plan, this Sun Youth program was initially established to provide financial assistance to senior citizens for whom this reform led to increased monthly medication expenses.

Today, the program is intended for all low income individuals covered by the Public Prescription Drug Insurance Plan, excluding recipients of social assistance and persons aged 65 years and over receiving the Guaranteed Income Supplement. Individuals who must pay the maximum contribution of $88.83 for drugs covered by Quebec’s Prescription Drug Insurance Plan can get financial assistance through Sun Youth’s program. Sun Youth’s contribution is based on the family’s monthly financial evaluation.

This Sun Youth program is carried out in partnership with the Association Québécoise des Pharmaciens Propriétaires (AQPP) and the Marcelle & Jean Coutu Foundation.
