Children’s help program

Since 1998, Sun Youth has established agreements with organizations whose social workers provide psychological and social support to children and their families. Sun Youth offers material assistance (food, new clothing), financial help (payment of basic household expenses, gift cards, medication, medical equipment, public transit vouchers), moral support and follow up.

Persons referred through youth centres

Some of the most serious cases dealt with by Sun Youth are referred by the Centres Jeunesse de Montréal and the Batshaw Youth and Family Centres. In accordance with the intervention plan designed for each case, our purpose is to maintain the child in his family environment or to speed up his return home.

Persons referred through hospitals for children

The illness of a child can unfortunately precipitate a family into poverty. A child’s illness may cause stress to the parents who may have to leave their jobs, at least temporarily, resulting in a reduced income. Families living outside the metropolitan area must come to reside in Montreal in order to stay with their sick child, thus incurring additional costs which most of these families cannot afford.

Sun Youth offers assistance to families referred by the Centre Hospitalier Universitaire Ste-Justine and the Montreal Children’s Hospital, so as to meet their more pressing needs and therefore enabling them to focus their energies on their child’s recovery.

This program is offered in partnership with the Fondation Marcelle et Jean Coutu.
